Help for individuals and couples in the High Peak area

Dr Diane Critchlow, a clinical embryologist with twenty five years experience in a large NHS IVF Unit, has set up a specialist diagnostic and consultancy service in primary care.

Based in Glossop, between Manchester and Sheffield, the easily accessible and affordable three part service aims to direct couples or individuals as quickly and easily to the most beneficial further investigations or treatment (NHS or private).

The service works to complement NHS investigations, but offers specialist interpretaion of results at a very early stage, to help couples feel less stressed and more in control of their situation.  Even after a few months of trying, we appreciate that individuals can become desperate to find out why they are not getting pregnant, and anxious about what to do next. If you visit your GP, you may be unsure about why you are having tests and what the results may mean. Or you many consider approaching a large fertility treatment clinic, but are worried about costs and which clinic to choose. Other couples or individuals may be delaying starting a family, or considering storing eggs, but need to assess if their fertilty is declining. This new service aims to answer these questions for you.  With direct access to a consultant clinical embryologist,  you are able to utilise expertise not usually available directly to patients, as you would usually see a gynaecologist.  Female ovarian reserve can be assessed with measurement of blood Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level and a comprehensive semen analysis will give information about male fertility.

Dr Critchlow has a special interest in male fertility and has extensive knowledge of all current fertilty investigations and treatments. Early testing with a full explanation of results can give couples peace of mind, even if results are low, as they can be advised about the best course of action to conceive naturally or given information about options for further investigations or treatment. Early detection of a male factor problem can be vital if the fertilty of the female partner is declining.  In addition, an optional clinic consultation is offered to discuss results in more detail, and provide couples with individualised written information tailored specifically to their situation. We are able to compare tests, treatment types, success rates and costs at different clinics.
