Just read this really interesting article online about a new procedure called Array Comparative Genomic Hybridisation (Array CGH) that has been developed by british researchers at CARE fertility in Nottingham.

It seems that the procedure involves selecting the most viable eggs for use in the fertility treatment, and  screening out eggs with genetic defects ,that would cause them to fail.

 It is hoped that the new IVF procedure will help thousands of infertile couples to start a family.

 It is hoped it will be particularly useful for older mothers where the risk of genetic defects in the eggs is higher and for those with a history of recurrent failed IVF attempts or recurrent miscarriage.

The test has also been licensed for use in younger patients.

What is a midstream ovulation test ?

A midstream ovulation test is a simple to use urine test for the detction of the LH surge. In a midstream Lh test the test strip is encased in a long plastic case.

 The midstream format of ovulation test is very simple and popular because the tester is not required to collect a urine sample prior to do the test.

They are usually packaged in boxes of 5 or 7 midstream ovulation tests.

How do I do a midstream ovulation test ?

 The midstream test is performed during urination by simply holding the test pad in the urine stream for the specified time and then reading the result after a couple of minutes. A man’s genetic make-up may play a role in whether he has sons or daughters, a study of hundreds of years of family trees suggests.

Newcastle University researchers found men were more likely to have sons if they had more brothers and vice versa if they had more sisters.

They looked at 927 family trees, with details on 556,387 people from North America and Europe, going back to 1600.

The same link between sibling sex and offspring sex was not found for women.

The precise way that genes can influence baby sex remains unproven.
